Due to current social restrictions, Iris Foundation’s annual Tree of Dreams campaign, which coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, went virtual this year.
In lieu of a public gathering, locals were encouraged to light a candle in remembrance and hope. The Budgewoi community was particurly active in taking up this call, sharing images of their candles and lanterns on social media and generously donating in support of Iris Foundation’s work to reduce the risk of suicide on the Central Coast.
The theme of this year’s global event was ‘Creating Hope Through Action’. Suicide Prevention Central Coast has compiled a useful list of action items for anyone interested in supporting suicide prevention, looking after their own mental health, and helping others to do the same.
Iris Foundation would like to thank everyone who participated in the event by lighting a candle at home or making a donation. Special thanks to Tree of Dreams sponsor TrendPac, whose support helped with the distribution of lanterns to the community.
Our thoughts are particularly with those in our community who have a lived experience of suicide and its complex ripple effects.
